Week 7 Blog 3

Free Choice

Where does the summer go?

I always get a little melancholy about this time of year, thinking that the summer has gone too fast, but this year I really feel it. So much of every summer feels like a “to do list.” Places to go and people to see that somehow I don’t have time to squeeze in during the school year. It is August 13th already and we are nearing the end of this class. Some of our classmates are finishing up next week’s blogs, and the final evaluation so it makes me realize that school really is right around the corner. I feel like I need more time with this new world of technology I have discovered. I need more time to read and prepare before I am ready to go in the halls of SHS and get back to my classroom. There is nothing so constant as change. So I guess I must try to slow down my thoughts a little more and really savor these last days. Go see those places I haven’t visited yet this summer, body surf the waves in Ogunquit, eat more steamers and butter. Maybe one or two more twist ice cream cones with sprinkles.

Ah summer, how I love thee.

  1. I have the same feelings. I feel that I've been exposed to so much, I need a little time before school begins so I can process. I guess it is a good thing; as I said, I've learned so much.

  2. Ditto here, I want more time for everything...to play with web 2.0 tools, to play with my children, to prepare for the coming school year, and to get to some of the things on my summer to-do list done. Sometimes I wonder if summers off are the best thing for students and for teachers. I think that I wouldn't put off so much to do if I didn't think I would have so much time to get it done in the summer.

  3. I have enjoyed learning so much this summer but have to start limiting my computer time to get ready for school to start! No more staying up to 1 AM watching Youtube tutorials on podcasting!

  4. It seems like short summer!. This class would have been great spread over 12 weeks. A little more time to explore more of the web 2.0 would have been helpful.

  5. Twelve weeks would have certainly opened up more explore time. I don't think I could have taken this class and worked full time. I spent so many late nights exploring, experimenting and playing with new tools. I loved having the time to do that. I am happy I took this class in the summer. If I had taken it in the school year, I would have had to wing it. I know I would have been frustrated because I have very little free time. Late nights would have been out of the question.

I was scheduled to take it in the spring. I am glad I cancelled.

Best of luck to you....keep blogging, I'll be watching!

  6. I though I'd have all the time in the world to get my web 2.0 plans up and running for the fall but now there's only 1 full week left! This is going to be a busy week. If only my house had air conditioning!

  7. I agree with all of you that the summer was the best time to take this course, and somehow I feel like teachers are never really "ready" to go back. I guess we just wake up that day and head in, ready for the roller coaster ride ahead. Best of luck to all of you that start next week!
